These airborne battles take place against Trainers standing far away, such as on cliffs. These battles offer a lot of experience. One new type has been introduced, the Fairy type. This type was added to balance the Dragon type, which was previously only weak to itself and Ice. The player is now able to change their appearance in-game, allowing them to customize their characters by changing their hair color and clothing. X and Y feature Gyms just as most other main series titles.
Just as in Unova, the Elite Four can be battled in any order. After battling all four, a path to the Champion is unlocked. After beating all four Elite Four members, the player will face the Champion, Diantha , who uses a variety of types along with a Gardevoir which can Mega Evolve.
The games sold more than four million copies during their first weekend on sale. The soundtrack contains most of the background music and effect music from the games.
The player is welcomed by Alexa , and starts in a modified version of Route 4 , an area with a large fountain in an area of decreased elevation, surrounded by small staircases leading to the fountain. Between the player's starting position and the fountain is tall grass.
A wild Pikachu will appear as soon as the player steps into the tall grass for the first time. At the fountain is a Skiddo , which the player can mount with A and dismount with B. As Skiddo cannot climb stairs, the player is restricted to the small area around the fountain. Just past the fountain is the opposite-gendered player character Serena in X demo or Calem in Y demo.
If the player interacts with them, they will challenge the player to a battle. A Fletchling is walking around in one of the patches of red flowers. Shauna is standing around in the north general area. If the player interacts with Shauna, she will challenge the player to a battle. Tierno is standing in the northwest and Trevor in the northeast. Past these mazes is Professor Sycamore standing in front of a gate. After a certain amount of time has passed, the player will be warped to Sycamore, and he will immediately talk to the player; it is also possible to simply talk to him before this time.
He then challenges the player to a battle with his own level Crobat , Chandelure , and Dragonite. Page actions Article Discussion View source History. Please remember to follow the manual of style and code of conduct at all times. For other uses, see XY.
Mega Evolutions did lead to overpowered teams in competitive Pokemon battles it also was a fun new mechanic that injected life into the series. While this allowed players to be connected and facilitated battles and trades it was not entirely unique. Sky Battles and Horde Encounters on the other hand were unique Pokemon battles that had their limitations and requirements. Sky Battles were accessible only to certain Flying-type Pokemon and Pokemon that had the ability Levitate.
They also prevented certain moves from being used. Horde Encounters were encounters with wild Pokemon that would have players battle against five wild Pokemon at once.
Pokemon in Horde Encounters were often under-level compared to other Pokemon in the area and hordes would consist primarily of one Pokemon species. While it was possible for there to be two species of Pokemon it was always four of one species and one of another in the horde. Horde Encounters were not available everywhere but where they were they had a one in twenty chance of being initiated.
Super Training allowed players to play a minigame with their Pokemon and EV train them in ways much simpler than in past games. This made min-max strategies easier to achieve with Pokemon and provided an overall faster way to EV train different Pokemon. By Kat Bailey Posted: 18 Oct pm. Pokemon has a reputation for glacially slow evolution, but in the case of Pokemon X and Y, tradition is only skin deep.
There are a host of improvements and new features, both large and small, that have a big impact on the game. The Fairy Type The Dragon-type reign of terror is mostly over. Fairies are immune to all Dragon attacks , which completely changes competitive play. The new type also gives previously forgotten Pokemon like Mawile a new lease on life. Have you played Pokemon X? At this point in the series, the story is still mostly harmless to the overall game-flow and is something that can be mostly ignored.
Visual design philosophies from previous generations stick—hence the big heads—along with some rough and janky animations, and standardized towns. As I mentioned in my section about the Kalos region as a whole, I was also impressed by the varied visual design of pretty much every town in the game, and some of what they did could not have been done if the games were in 2D.
Some problems do become clear once the meta-game level is reached, but for the most part, the games introduce a ton of new features that changed things up in a noticeable way. From a gameplay perspective, the Fairy type really shook things up as it knocked the usually powerful Dragon types down a peg. Mega Evolutions, on the other hand, were a double-edged sword.
